Assessments are essential to ensure that students are learning. Assessments also assist in an instructor’s self-reflective ability to ensure content is provided through an effective process meeting differentiated styles of learning and products are effectively demonstrated to ensure communication of content. My assessments document student understanding of the content and process yet not a “standardized” quantitative testing expertise. My goal is to avoid the “gottcha” feeling by students as they are assessed related to learning (Shores & Chester, 2009). Tomlinson’s idea of “adjusting the nature of the assignments” to provide a more qualitative learning opportunity guided the chosen assessments (2001).
